Raymond Dwyer, Patient
Focalyx® is a cutting-edge procedure created by Dr. Fernando Bianco, MD, Urologist, and Oncologist with over 20 years of experience in major US hospitals. It eradicates cancer without removing the prostate, using state-of-the-art technology, the Focalyx Fusion® software, enables precise diagnosis and treatment of cancerous lesions. It eradicates cancer without removing the prostate, using state-of-the-art technology, the Focalyx Fusion® software, enables precise diagnosis and treatment of cancerous lesions. Mark Gall, Patient
If you find out that you have either elevated PSA or prostate cancer, I would highly recommend you consider Focalyx, and certainly not taking out your prostate
Joel Abad, Patient
Excelente equipo, trabajo en equipo y atención personalizada por cada uno de sus miembros, el Dr Fernando Bianco es excepcional, gracias. Sin duda los recomiendo.
Before performing a biopsy, our patients undergo a specialized multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) to provide greater image quality for the diagnosis and determining of cancerous tumors. With this mpMRI we can detect 90% of both malignant and benign tumors. The result is a highly accurate 3D image of the patient's gland, in which it is possible to locate suspicious lesions with great precision, like a GPS system for your prostate.
During the biopsy, we use a new approach in which a sample of the prostate is taken through the perineum by means of Focalyx® Fusion. Focalyx® Bx is much safer, as the risk of infection is 100 times less than that of a transrectal biopsy. Furthermore, it provides greater accuracy by giving the doctor the ability to reach places in the prostate that transrectal biopsy cannot reach and performing the biopsy in the same plane that the treatment will occur.
Focalyx® Tx is a new, non-invasive treatment for prostate cancer. Its main objective is to maintain the physical integrity and quality of life of the patients as it destroys the cancerous lesion(s) while preserving the normal tissue and functions of the prostate. Several means of treatment can be used with the Focalyx Fusion, such as cryoablation, IRE, HIFE, brachytherapy and laser ablation. During cryoablation, very low temperatures are used to destroy cancerous tumor lesions. As for laser ablations, heat waves are used to burst the cancerous cells. The procedures are performed through perineal access using the same precision "GPS-like" system, Focalyx® Fusion.
Recovery and Follow-Up
Recovery is very quick and non-invasive compared to other treatment methods. With no hospitalization and only 5-7 days catheterized, the patient can get back to their normal lives within a week of killing their cancer! Follow-Up is thorough, yet not time-consuming. PSA tests are required every three months and follow-up imagine with a potential repeat biopsy may be required after one year.
How does Focalyx integrate all of this technology into an overall treatment methodology?
Focalyx is the planning and MR-US Fusion platform that is integrated within the first three steps of this treatment methodology:
Focalyx Planning Tool (PLAi) is a planning software that doctors can use to tailor each patient’s treatment plans specifically to the anatomy of their patients. This gives the doctors the ability to pay proper attention to the prostate cancer of each patient, and apply their treatments accordingly.
The Focalyx Fusion is the device that doctors use during the biopsy and treatment stages. The device takes the plans created in the previous step and fuses it with the prostate during the time of the procedure so the doctor can overlay this GPS of the prostate over the ultrasound image and take advantage of this mapping system to treat their patients accordingly.
