Age, ancestry, and family history can affect your prostate cancer risk. Learn when to talk with your doctor about starting prostate cancer screening.

Prostate cancer is rare before age 40, but the risk increases rapidly after age 50 🎂 In fact, 6 out of 10 cases are diagnosed in men over the age of 65.
Ethnicity also plays a role: prostate cancer occurs more frequently, and at younger ages, among African American men and Caribbean men of African descent. That’s why some specialists recommend that these men—as well as those with a family history—begin screening at age 40 or 45.
Knowing your risk profile isn’t something to fear—it’s empowering. It allows you to decide with your doctor when to start your screenings.
