What does an elevated PSA mean?

Receiving an elevated PSA result can be concerning, but it's important to know that this test alone does not confirm a diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the prostate, and its levels can increase for several reasons. In addition to cancer, factors such as benign prostate enlargement, inflammation (prostatitis), urinary tract infections, and even certain recent medical procedures can affect PSA levels.

That is why PSA results should always be interpreted alongside other diagnostic tests, a clinical evaluation, and each patient's medical history.

The most important thing is not to jump to conclusions before speaking with a specialist.
